It's Still on in Hong Kong

There are 234 islands total around Hong Kong, but only four are home to a substantial residential communities with easy ferry access. On Saturday, we caught a ferry to Lamma Island, one of these four inhabited outlying islands. The island offers a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the city; there are no cars, some quiet beaches and a decidedly laid back atmosphere. That afternoon we enjoyed the nice “family walkway” between two of the main villages on the island, Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan, before catching the ferry back to Hong Kong Island for dinner.

The south coast of Hong Kong Island is totally different than the north coast. Much less developed and seemingly home to the wealthier HK citizens, the south coast is dotted with beaches and recreational opportunities. On Sunday morning, we took a bus to Stanley, one of the beach towns on the south coast and wandered around the area, grabbing lunch on the water overlooking the beach. Nearby Stanley Market is a covered market filled with cheap clothing and what not. Again, Krista’s bargaining prowess was on display.

We returned to Hong Kong airport that evening. Next, we are flying north to Guilin in the Guangxi Province to check out mainland China.
